What Our Contented Team Say
Jana Helps has been built by our valued team, many of whom have been with us a considerable time. Here are a few of their stories — maybe you'll have one too?
Davina came from Poland with her husband and two young girls. She joined us in 2017 and still works with us today. Her girls are now adults — the eldest became a solicitor — and since they flew the nest, Davina and her husband have built a new home in Poland to retire to. In the meantime, she works to furnish it with the latest home appliances.
Angela had a law degree and had just finished a legal practice course. Before she completed it she joined us for summer cover in 2018, working hard and making a great impression with our clients. Many were sad to see her go — little did they know she was on her way from chambres to chambers to become a barrister.
Janet joined in 2018 as she began part-time university studies in psychiatry. On her non-studying days she worked part-time for us, finishing her degree just before the pandemic and leaving to take up her career full time. In 2024 she chose to study further and asked to rejoin part-time to help her through — we were delighted, and she's still on our team today.
Melanie joined in March 2019, working near full-time hours designed to fit neatly around an evening office-cleaning job she still enjoys. She gives around twenty hours a week to Jana Helps' clients, even after recently taking a one-day-a-week English language course.
Marie, another of the class of 2019, had two children at secondary school, old enough to fend for themselves if she came home a little later. She cleaned for our clients until she was finally accepted into HM Prison Service.
Jennifer was approaching retirement in 2019 and wanted to do something different from her lifetime career. Fit and keen to stay active, she thought a little extra money would help fund more holidays. It still does — Jennifer now averages around ten hours a week with her Jana Helps client portfolio.
Names have been changed to protect the individuals' identities.
Part-time work has great benefits!
You must be in good health, physically fit, speak & read basic English, able to work on your own or in a small team, have a smartphone and have the Right to Work in the UK.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need cleaning experience to apply?
We look for people with cleaning experience who take pride in consistently high standards. If you're returning to work after a break or looking for a fresh start, do still get in touch — reliability, punctuality and a good eye for detail matter just as much.
How much will I earn, and when am I paid?
Pay is £16.50 to £18 per hour, depending on your experience and service level. You're paid weekly — every Friday, in arrears, straight into your nominated account.
Do I need a car and a driving licence?
Yes. You'll travel between clients' homes across the area, so you'll need a full driving licence, access to a car, and a smartphone with satnav.
Which areas would I be working in?
We cover Reading, Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead, Marlow, Henley, Bracknell, Ascot, Gerrards Cross and Wallingford. Wherever we can, we keep your jobs close to where you live.
Can I work part-time or around school hours?
Yes. We offer part-time and full-time roles, job shares, and flexible scheduling — so you can fit work around family, another job, your studies, or a return to work after a break.
What happens after I apply?
We aim to reply to every applicant within one working day. Your first interview is a quick phone call, followed by a meeting at a location near you.
What do I need to bring to my interview?
Two forms of ID — one of them with a photo (passport, driving licence, ID card, or a bank or HMRC letter) — plus documents proving your right to work in the UK.
